This week in parenting: 4/3/17

Parents who held more authoritarian parenting beliefs were found to attribute more hostile intent to the child for actions in hypothesised parenting scenarios and be more likely to predict responding with harsh parenting practices such as hitting or yelling.

The association between maternal depression and reduced parenting quality was found to be highest when marital quality was high and social support was high.

The biggest effect for maternal depression on children emotional or behavioral problems was found for when depression occured in the preschool years, with little effect found for pre-natal depression.
