Health
A study of parents of children with asthma discovered 40% believed harmful myths about inhalers including that they were expensive, would damage the lungs or create dependency.

study of Australian 4-7 year olds estimated the prevalence of mental disorders at 13.9% with ADD/HD being the most common followed by anxiety disorders.

Parental knowledge of nutrition was found to positively influence children's diets but for older children nutritional knowledge was not found to influence food consumption with taste and percieved social acceptability being much more influencing.

Not having stair gates or leaving the stair gates open as well as not having carpet put on the stairs was found to significantly increase the likelihood of a child needing to attend hospital for a fall.

Parenting
A study on the natural course of worry found that it is highest at age ten and most disruptive on children's life at age 13.

Belief in your ability as a parent and your verbal responsiveness has been found to affect other aspects of your parenting in particular behavioural and emotional responsiveness, positive affect irritability, support and control.

The type of goals that parents hold for their teenagers have been shown to affect their parenting with performance-approach goals predicting more controlling parenting and preventing acknowledgement of feelings.

An analysis of interviews with specialists found that parental influence, relationships and boundaries were all believed to be linked with childhood offending.

High levels of praise and incentives were found to be protective of children's behaviour when parent's were under psychological stress.

The effect of inconsistency on producing aggression or depression in children has been found to be somewhat mediated by the presence of communication, affection and kindness.


School
Lack of print knowledge, verbal short term memory, phonological awareness and rapid naming at school entry have all been found to be good predictors of  later reading difficulty.

study of Chinese families found that preschool children's understanding of academic concepts was influenced by the frequency with which the father ate with the child while parent's view of the child's learning was influenced by parenting style, family functioning and family eating style.


Teenagers
Teenager's view of high levels of conflict with parents and parents having a lack of knowledge about the youth's whereabouts (or teenagers refusing to disclose) have been found to predict higher levels of violence.

Parent's showing positive emotions was found to lower problem behaviours in teenagers, this effect was particularly pronounced for children who had less effortful control.

Psychological control and communication with parents about sex was found to predict the sexual behaviour of teenagers.
