It has been suggested that the dangers of technology and the internet are overstated and an extension of social interaction and media consumption. As such education should be more generalised education of life skills, social interactions and media literacy.

A study has found girls who were encouraged by parents to diet were twice as likely to diet by age 11 and were more likely to have increases in BMI between 9 and 15 years of age compared to girls who were not encouraged to diet by parents.

Facilitative parenting characterized by warm and responsive parent-child relating that enables appropriate child independence, effective management of parent-child conflict, coaching of social and emotional skills and providing opportunities for socializing with peers has been found to be protective for bullying and social and emotional problems in  children.
